Building on the success of FMAACI’s previous 2024-2025 project, “Music Upbeat for Seniors Inclusion and Community Connections,” (MUSICC), this new program places older adults at the center of community life. By positioning seniors—many of whom are seasoned artists and cultural bearers—as mentors and facilitators, the project creates a dynamic bridge between generations, newcomers, and Indigenous communities.
Empowering Seniors Through Culture and Mentorship
“Creative Connections” addresses the federal government’s national priorities by promoting healthy aging and social participation. The program features a diverse curriculum tailored to the evolving needs of Manitoba’s senior population, including: Intergenerational Jam Sessions and Mentorship: music-led gatherings that unite seniors with youth; Visual Arts & Storytelling: workshops designed to preserve cultural heritage and spark creativity; Digital Literacy Training: bridging the technological gap to help seniors stay connected with family and resources; Wellness & Inclusion Circles and Cultural Showcase: safe spaces for dialogue, addressing social isolation and community integration.
“By placing our elders at the heart of this program, we are not only honoring their legacy but empowering them to shape the future of our community. This project is a testament to the vital role seniors play as leaders and educators,” says FMAACI board member Daniel Tabo-oy Jr.
Aligning with National Priorities
The New Horizons for Seniors Program is a federal grants and contributions program that supports projects that make a difference in the lives of seniors and their communities. FMAACI’s “Creative Connections” aligns with the NHSP’s core objectives, including promoting volunteerism, engaging seniors through mentorship, and supporting social inclusion.
By celebrating diversity and promoting financial and social security, FMAACI continues to strengthen the social fabric of Manitoba, ensuring that seniors remain active, valued, and connected members of society.
